James Maloney is a Devon-based photographer specialising in wildlife, travel, landscape and editorial photography.

Driven by a fascination with the natural world and the stories held within wild places, James’s photography takes him from the rugged coastlines and landscapes of South West England to some of the world’s most remarkable wildlife destinations.

His approach is rooted in patience, observation and an appreciation of natural light. Whether waiting for the first light to fall across a Devon coastline, following wildlife through the African wilderness or documenting the character of a remote destination, James seeks to create images that go beyond simply recording a moment — photographs that convey a sense of place, atmosphere and connection.

Wildlife and conservation have become a particular focus of his work. His photography aims to portray animals in their natural environment, capturing behaviour, character and fleeting moments that might otherwise go unseen. His recent work in South Africa’s Kruger National Park has further developed this passion, documenting the extraordinary diversity of Africa’s wildlife in its natural habitat.

James’s work has received recognition from organisations and publications including Nikon, BBC, National Geographic Traveller, The Telegraph and Devon Life.

Alongside his personal projects, James works with businesses, tourism organisations, publications and brands to create distinctive photography that communicates a strong sense of place and identity. His work spans commercial, editorial, tourism, wildlife, travel and event photography.

He is also the creator of Photographing Devon, an ambitious long-term project documenting the county’s most compelling landscapes, wildlife and photographic locations, bringing together his knowledge of the region with his passion for storytelling through imagery.
